We all (added by me) have different gifts. If I were to ask one of my Jr High students what their gifts were the vast majority would be unable to answer. As I ponder this I wonder if this would remain true for the adults here at Northside as well. That would be sad because one of the most beautiful things in the Kingdom of God is someone who knows what their God-given gifts are and are using them in a way that brings honor and praise to the Great Gift Giver. So a couple of questions to ponder today, “Do I know what God has gifted me with?” and “Am I using these gifts right now in the Kingdom?”
“Do I know what God has gifted me with?” When Paul writes to the Romans he states that they can know the ways God has gifted them when they are honest with themselves. He tells them to not think of themselves too highly. This is important for us today. First, we have to be willing to take the time to assess our gifting, and when we do that we have to look hard at who we have been created to be, not who we want to be. I never have heard Superman wishing he was invisible. “Am I using these gifts right now in the Kingdom?” Now that you are here I hope that you already know or have begun to figure out what your gifts may be. Paul says if you know your gifts use them. Basically, get to work. Nuff said.
Couple of extra thoughts. Just because we may not be gifted in an area doesn’t give us an excuse not to serve in that way. “Well I don’t have the gift of service so I’m not going to serve!” Wrong answer. Also, God can give us more gifts as we use the ones we have for His work. Sadly, the opposite is true as well. God will take gifts away from us if we are not putting them to good use. Remember the gifts are always meant to bring Him praise, never us.
