God's Will

It’s a question we as Christians ask ourselves all the time, "What is the will of God for my life?" I know I have sought out the answer to this question countless times in my walk with God. What do you want me to do Lord? Which way do I turn? It is a question others ask me often, "How do I know what God’s will is for my life?" It seems like a difficult question to find the answer to - I know many people who have agonized over trying to figure it all out. Maybe you are there too. If you are, take heart, God has shown us what we must do - He is not hiding this truth from us!

In Romans 12:1-2 Paul lays out the way God has told us to find His will. First, offer yourself up to God, daily allowing him to work through you as you humbly submit to Him. Second, do not act and react like the rest of the world - like you did before you walked with God. You have been made new - do not go back to your old way of doing things, instead, be transformed. "But how?" you ask - by renewing your mind.

How do you renew your mind? How can we get the new way of truth into our hearts and into our minds so that God can transform us??? By reading God’s word. It is that simple. The truth of God is not just going to jump in there once we get baptized, we have to put it in by reading our Bibles. It is our spiritual food. When our bodies are hungry we don’t just hope our stomach will magically fill itself, we stuff our face until we are full - and sometimes way beyond that point!

Sadly, many Christians (I am sorry to say at times including myself) spiritually starve themselves, never taking in the spiritual nutrients found in the pages of scripture. Those same Christians then end up wondering why God seems so distant, why it seems so hard to know what He wants them to do. In reality God is not distant at all, they just don’t know how to sense Him there because their minds have not been transformed by His word - they are still stuck between the old reality and the new one laid out in scripture.

If you are searching for God’s will right now, the best advice I can give you is check to see if you are in humble submission to Him - offering yourself up, check to see if you are renewing your mind by feeding it the truth of God’s word. Once we are offering ourselves up to God in humble submission, not acting and thinking like we did before we knew Christ but instead filling our hearts and minds with the truth of God and allowing Him to transform us, then we will be able to test and approve what God’s will is for us.

Whether you are searching for God’s will right now or not, feast on God’s word today. Savor the nutrients found in the ancient truth God has preserved for you in scripture. Taste and see that the Lord is good!

Blessings upon you as you feast with Him today!

  2. Wow! I am so loving these posts. I hope this continues. Vicki, it is like you were reading my mind. I am going through the "What am I supposed to do, Lord?" phase right now at 35 and I feel like I can't read the Bible enough. We are teaching the Depot kids to "wait on the Lord" and sometimes as adults, we forget to do that too. By actively and daily seeking Him through Scripture and prayer, we see His plan for us laid out. We just need to wait on Him and stay in contact with Him through His Word. Thank you!
